Brittany Murphy

As I was working late night Saturday, a seemingly random thought came to me, “Brittany Murphy… hmmm, I wonder what she’s doing these days. hmmm… hope she’s doing well…”

I smiled to myself as I recalled her charm and personality, “HAH!… of course she’s well, and probably just as busy as she ever was… I bet she’s even got a new movie project or something special she’s working on…”

Brittany Murphy

Then I briefly thought back to back to 2002 remembering praying for her and how I prayed for her well-being on several occasions over the years every since then. Why did I find myself suddenly thinking about her now though?

I mused over the fact of how easily I can get distracted as my thoughts went toward a quick google search to ease my curiosity….

“No, Stop! Wait a minute… ohh no you don’t!”, came the cries of discipline just as I went for a new firefox tab, “Not with all this work you have to do!!”

Back to the task at hand, I worked all through the night on into the morning.

Finally ready to call it quits after a 12 hour work stint, I flipped over to Facebook to see how many fresh messages awaited my attention…. Instead what I found left me staring at the screen in bewildered disbelief….

“Actress Brittany Murphy dead at 32…Sad..” – quoted by a friend of mine.

WHAT!?!?!? WHAT???

Brittany Murphy - Nov. 10, 1977- Dec. 20, 2009

Brittany Murphy Nov. 10, 1977- Dec. 20, 2009

I started to check the news… no. bad idea. …already some reference to drug involvement and I could just imagine the ugly feeding frenzy of the tabloids and etc press who were most likely drawing and reporting their own ill conclusions and opinions as per usual. No, none of that for me… I felt sick.

I did not want to know what happened.

I just logged off the computer and went to sleep.

The next day I cried. Today I cried more.

Only 32.

Work vs Wisdom in Desperate December

This past week’s rainy days here in Texas are reminiscent of my past life and struggles.

It’s desperate days like these of which the song and Official Video, ‘Work’ by Jars of Clay, so adequately convey the feelings of.

Working, striving, fighting just to breathe when everything in life seems to suffocate us, when we feel as though we are drowning… the times when we must be reminded that we are not alone.

Knowing that God will never let us down, that He is with us, eliminates all fear of drowning and allows us the sweet relief of finally letting go – which turns out to be the best thing we can ever do anyways!

For there is no fear, or failure, or the stress of our own works when we finally, as they say, “let go, and let God”. When we truly know that nothing can ever separate us from His love, there is truly nothing to fear because His love is forever so we who are in Him are also forever! All this drowning in retrospect to our new life in Christ is only a false illusion. For those who are in Christ, letting go is the only option! It is freedom! Living outside the matrix!!

As I was getting through these desperate December days, I found comfort in the following wise words of hope and encouragement from my awesome sister:

“Whatever your life experience appears to be, you have, at this moment, an opportunity to let go of personal striving and let God move in you and through you to fill every need.”

“No matter how great the gulf seems between you and the solution to your deepest desire, you can trust God …God never leaves a void. He will never desert you or forsake you, His own creation.”

“God’s presence of love and wisdom is ever nurturing your soul in its gradual unfolding of spiritual potential. God’s power is ever at work within every circumstance. “

“As you let go and trust God, everything is transformed- yes, everything- into a blessing. God continuously makes dark places light, rough places smooth, crooked places straight and empty places full. Full of His loving kindness and abundance of joy.” – Mary Kupferle

Thank God for Jesus’ redemptive power working through people like Mary, writing such inspiration, keeping us reminded to let Him do all the WORK.  ~ Go read her article in full here: http://www.workministry.com/

Starbucks Rant

I enjoy studying companies that have attained huge success and I spend a great deal learning about what makes them work well. I like seeing brands evolve and understand the phsycology behind product marketing.

Having said all that, I pose the questions: What makes Starbucks (obviously a massive success) so special? What gives it true value? Does it have any? Is it really found in their coffee? Do you even like it? Maybe it’s the service? How about the environment? Maybe you go for the smoothies LOL? Conveinent Locations? What??

Since people get unhealthily attached to brands in a cult like way, which in this case many are, I do realize the potential backlash this post may receive from loyal Starbuckers.

Making enemies by sharing my opinion of Starbucks Coffee certianly is not my intent here but is a rather predictable response to the truth, especially of people who may have embraced a lie for an extended period of time.

My real hope in sharing here is that truth liberates you – as it does when you truly let it in! So… I hope those reading will do so with an open heart…

…and now for the truth about Starbuck’s product and marketing:

STARBUCKS’ COFFEE IS NOT GOOD!

STARBUCKS’ LOGO IS PERVERTED!

Yes, the Starbucks logo and Startbucks’ coffee are both really gross; equally offensive even.

As far as the coffee goes… well, it is quite insulting to the U.S. populace that a company continually thrives by selling inferior coffee because the majority of consumers lack any experience of good coffee. I see this as exploitation over an ignorant populace and I much prefer fresh roasted beans, thank you!

Once you know good coffee, I promise, you’ll only drink Starbucks in desperation due to the lack of alternatives and for it’s convienience – not by preference… I certianly buy there as an exception rather than habit. Also, I like investing my money with companies who I trust to reinvest their profits into Kingdom ventures (…but that’s another topic all together).

If you would like help understanding why their logo is so distasteful in representing something people drink, you can take a look at these references:

  • An interesting link showing the evolution of the Starbucks logo which even includes correspondence from the original logo designer.
  • Here is Wikipedia’s entry about the melusine creature depicted on Starbucks’ logo which is also known as a succubus.

Conclusion:
Consumers’ ignorance and the lack of convienent alternatives work well for this company.

Now for a more positive perspective of which I’ll leave you… I’ll have to admit I have enjoyed my past visits to Starbucks. Since they have managed to build one on every corner they are often easy meeting points which also offer the value of providing a clean and chill environment most the time. Also, on several occasions I have met many exceptionally cool Starbucks employees who made my visits worthwhile.

PEACE, LOVE, TRUTH

  • (If you are wondering what really is good coffee is all about, and where you can find it, stay tuned… I feel a new post coming up in which I write about how and where I learned about different types of coffee and what truly great coffee I enjoy most.)

hey, it’s MY Birthday!

ooh I worked so hard to not have to work on my birthday, but ended up having to anyways!!! I certainly couldn’t let that upset me, besides, some reason I always work on my birthday! …I think it has something to do with being born on Labor Day, I don’t know LOL.

Yesterday I met a young man who had hurt his back. It was very obvious he was in a lot of pain, he shouldn’t have even been at work for he could barely do his job in that state. I knew I was supposed to pray for him, and was able to catch up with him just as he was leaving work to go see a doctor for his symptoms. I asked him if he believed in Jesus, to which he responded yes. However, I could discern that he did not really have a relationship Him. Nonetheless, I gave testimony about Jesus as healer and he allowed me to quickly pray for his back. As I prayed, I knew that his faith was being greatly increased. At that point, I knew he was going to be healed and could foresee that God would use this healing to allow me to witness to him more later. Today I got that chance. When he saw me at work, he excitedly yelled out to me from the far end of a hallway, “Hey man! That prayed worked!” He came to show me that his back was indeed healed. I encouraged him to read the Bible for himself to see what Jesus was all about, instead of just letting a bunch of religious garbage pollute his mind. He agreed to that. Amen! It was definitely worth being at work, even on my birthday, to learn that someone I had previously prayed for had been healed! It was like a b-day gift.

Later, I was not feeling too well because I was so tired. I had worn myself out working this contract, how I thank God that today was the last! The computers I had to set up where being stored in another building on the grounds so I had a lot of extra work just moving them to where they needed to be. I headed down into the basement of the building to pull them up, when this interesting day-dream like thought arrested my attention…

I though about celebrating my birthday with this woman, Brigette, whom I previously met a few weeks ago. Although we only briefly met in an airport, I really liked her and wished I could have gotten to know her better. To be spending my time with someone such as her would certainly have been a much more ideal birthday than to be stuck working today! My mind curiously wandered on about Brigette. It had been nearly 3 months since we met, and I couldn’t stop thinking about her. No other girl had ever captivated this much of my interest, not even close.

Feeling light-headed and hungry, I sat down to reflect on my day and to take a break. I could have easily fallen asleep down in that basement and even considered taking a nap right there, but I also wanted to get this job over with – no way would I be coming back to work again tomorrow! So pushing onward I began loading my cart with ‘stupid computers’.

Then suddenly, I had this overwhelming impression in my spirit… ‘Today is Brigette’s Birthday!!’

I quickly reminded myself that, “today is MY birthday NOT hers!” hmm “…what, was I crazy??” Nonetheless, the thought was so real is seemed that it must be true. What if it was. How amazing would it be to share the same birthday as this dream girl who so impressed me. So I began to pray that, if in fact it actually was her b-day, she would have an extremely enjoyable one and that she would be kept safe if she went out to party. In that moment of prayer, I had a vision!

In the vision, I found myself at her birthday party which was being held outside in a park. In the vision I held a small gift behind me as I waited for the right time to walk up and present myself along with the gift, then when I eventually did she warmly greeted me with a hug. Wow. Strange. Lovely.

What interesting event in the middle of an otherwise dull workday! No matter how crazy it seemed, it was certainly welcome. As I plowed on through quite a challenging workday I found myself wanting that lovely vision become true!

Later in the day my work took me over to another facility where I began to have a much better day!
Upon arrival, I was catered to by all the friendly staff and the administrator had lunch brought to me. Then I was totally caught by surprise when an entourage of nurses came around the corner singing to me in harmony… I blushed. Thanks to my new friend Flavia, word had gotten out! After that, I got sung the birthday song everywhere I went throughout the rest of my day and felt exceptionally important when friendly strangers saluted me all over the building with “Happy Birthday, Brent!”.

When I got home, I laid down to take a nap before going out. My thoughts turned back to wondering about that vision I had… what about Brigette’s birthday.. was she having a good one? I really hoped so.. but wait… was it even really her birthday!? I jumped up and went to the computer, I had to see about this girl. Thank God for Facebook. With a quick search, I got a reality check…no…

I was not crazy! We indeed do share the same Birthday! AMAZING

Wish I could give her a birthday present today or just let her know I was thinking about her!

In the evening after waking from my nap Leonard took me out to eat at a nice Italian restaurant. We had a good time talking about our work together and our future. There was prophetic insight to be had from the meal. We were each given large menus, and I was also handed a smaller menu which had dinner specials. I quickly observed that this smaller menu offered us a much better deal. It included double portions at the same price the larger menus listed for only a single entrée. It was easy to agree that using this smaller menu was the way to go! I felt God was reassuring me that both of us will enjoy a double portion blessing for working together in Kingdom Business. I also thought of the larger menu as the broad way which leads to destruction, and the smaller one as following Wisdom along the narrow path to Life.

I came home and wrote here all about my day, hopefully it was a good read for someone out there. I know it will be an interesting record of a day in the life of Brent – and on my B-day!

Now I’m gonna relax a bit while I read. Probably fall asleep after such a good meal. I’m so thankful to God that my job is over, I’ve got money for my upcoming trip to Indonesia, I’m alive and with full use of my legs, and Jesus is my best friend. I’ve got a great life!

Thank you Jesus for giving me an awesome birthday!

Jesus is into Healthcare

I’ve actually been working in the healthcare environment for a few months now and have witnessed many incredible miracles here. God had me pray over the hands of many nurses that they would receive and freely give the healing power of Jesus. Just before God sent me to work here, He put that healing power in my hands. Once, after I prayed with a receptionist at one facility she was so deeply touched by God that word spread around and the people’s faith there was greatly increased. Suddenly, I couldn’t walk down the halls without someone grabbing me and asking me to stop and pray for them! Several nurses have been praying over the patients and they are getting healed! One nurse came to me and told me about a recent dream in which her hands and face began glowing and God told her that she had the gift of healing. A few administrators of the facilities have even asked me to pray for them; we asked that God would guide them in leadership and increase their vision of Jesus as healer. I also prayed that fear would not stop anyone from inviting Jesus to work among the people. There is so much more to tell about this, because it’s only the beginning of what God has showed me will begin happening out in this field.

Today is also my last day to work at those facilities, which means I will look forward to visiting again when I’m completely free to spend time with the people instead of being tied to computer work.

That will be so much fun!! Jesus is Awesome!

Divine Connections

so… I finally arrived home after taking a much delayed flight!

Jetblue

…but no complaints whatsoever since it was all part of God’s awesome design at work in my life! For me, this weather related flight delay was a joyful myriad of opportunities.

Just about every time I step out of the house it seems God has some great provision awaiting me through one of His servants. Likewise, every time I go out He also puts many people in my path of which I have the joy of meeting and serving.

As I just traveled home after 3 days away for a “job training”, I had many of these connections along the way, all of which details will be included in my latest book-in-progress aptly titled, “Divine Connections”.

It is most remarkable to realize that almost every person I meet along my journey through life are of utmost importance to my destiny. Whether it be it a lowly beggar or a rich ruler I rarely take for granted these great encounters lest I be blinded by sin and miss God’s best for me. It is because of these wonderful experiences, and my trust in Jesus that I continue to look for blessings in even the worst of situations and welcome these “Divine Connections”.

An Emblem of Love

I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair. – Isaiah 50:6

I am reminded of a young mother whose face was badly disfigured.
Her little girl was continually ridiculed by the children in school because
of her mother’s appearance.

When the little girl was old enough, the mother explained to her that
when she was a baby there was a dreadful fire in the apartment and,
although the mother was able to save the little girl, the mother herself
suffered very severe burns in the process. From that day on, the little girl
was no longer embarrassed about her mother. Every time she looked
into her mother’s face it was a reminder of just how much she was loved.

Is it possible that, in addition to the nail prints, there were additional
scars-perhaps where His beard used to be-that caused their difficulty in
recognizing Him? Are they still there? Does Jesus still bear the marks of
His humiliation?

In the Book of Revelation, John is propelled forward in time some several
thousand years and is granted a vision of the throne of God. In
Revelation 5 we find “the lamb as it had been slain,” apparently still
bearing the scars of the cross. They say that the only man-made things in heaven are His scars.

When Jesus returns to rule Israel, He proclaims,
“And they shall look upon me whom they have pierced.”

The marks of His humiliation are also the marks of His glory.

Furthermore, I’m sure the most significant aspects of the cross were not
the physical or physiological aspects. I believe it will take us an eternity
to even begin to understand what it cost Him that we might be with Him.

He was born of a woman so that we could be born of God.
He humbled Himself so that we could be lifted up.
He became a servant so that we could be made co-heirs.
He suffered rejection so that we could become His friends.

How precious our Redeemer is! Have you really thanked Him lately?

or HAVE YOU EVER??

nostalgia

welcome to my online turf… www.brentchristian.com. it’s nice to be back after almost 8 years of not being online! i certianly couldn’t foresee (or even scarcely imagine) being away for so long! i have been a computer junkie since 9 yrs old and i ‘lived’ online well before the internet was widely available. while it seems the idea of even having an ‘online identity’ is still a rather new concept for many, i was keen to the idea back in 1993 which makes me seem old since it may be difficult for you to imagine life without the internet now, however i’m only 29 years old. my personal site started out hosted on my own server thanx to an old box running Slackware 1.7 and it died shortly after my last post on 7/7/01. i miss all the cool people and the good vibes of those who where web journaling back before the Pyra folks started calling us ‘bloggers’. if you check out some of those old websites courtesy of the way back machine you’ll see what i mean… or umm probably not, it’s one of those things where you like had to be there. anyways, i love/hate computers and have been working with them since 1988, i used to run up the phone bill dialing BBSs and actually miss those times (not the 1200 baud connection though, or monochrome screens). the sad thing was that i was still playing on BBSs when radiply more and more than just an elite few started to enjoy the ‘world wide web’ and with higher and higher speeds, mind you; while i was stuck out in a small rural town literally chomping at the bit. when i finally got set free from small town hell i started my own computer company during the dot com pre crunch era… ahhh where am i now ….and what am i talking about?? wow this is seriously ancient boring stuff, but i bet you read at least 90% of it. that is time you’ll never get back my friend, hope you don’t mind LOL!! next time read faster using spreeder.com. …ohh yeah, i would call myself the ‘internet rock star’ if that title didn’t properly belong to ben brown.

enjoy my new personal site www.brentchristian.com and thanx for visiting, you big reader you!!

peace out – brent

internet rock star?! huh??

hello, i’m brent christian (as if that wouldn’t be obvious)
i’m using this post as the oppourtunity, of which it certianly is, to clear up any confusion or delusions that you (the web community) or me-myself-and-I may have ever had or currently have concerning this matter.

I am NOT an internet rockstar.

Everybody, that knows, knows ben brown is the real ‘internet rockstar’!!

Although… I do have a history with both worlds…

as a geek >> internet

-or- (choose wisely)

as a band member >> rockstar
