Brimful of Asha, Hope Through Music

Over 20 years ago now Tjinder Singh was waxing nostalgic for the music that gave him hope growing up.
Thus the hit song, Brimful of Asha, was born and brought to us through his band Cornershop.

Now one can look back with nostalgia for the days when they were looking back,
when their music about the music which helped them get along in turn also helped us to get along.
And we can all yearn throughout the ages for that bosom of a pillow,
for the freedom of those youthful days of coming of age when the music was our escape
though it be a 45, an obsolete CD, or those 90’s radio airwaves

Today, we still ‘don’t need no government warnings’.
We need our freedom. We need it just as much now as we did then.
So we shouldn’t only look back with wishful thinking,
we must play the music, and create the music… keep alive our music…

So I say, “Joie de vivre!”
Gimme a brimful of Asha,
those carefree tunes,
my cushion of hope to see me through!

[For you google searching for the meaning of this song, maybe it’s bothered you since you where in highschool even, lol, well, finally, today is your day – here you go: “What does the song ‘Brimful of Asher’ mean?“]

Where were you through our silence?

…I was on a heavenly ride …killing the past and coming back to life…

Lyrics:

Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else’s words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight… into the shining sun

Tomorrow’s Just An Excuse Away…

27 turns to 33 in 2190 days worth of excuses and you’ll make it home
where all will last forever, but only in your heart that she’ll break and you’ll break.

Along your journey you’ll learn that the mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death and continue making the effort to forgive and love with the help of the I of the Radio… The end will be the beginning where you’ll be able to show your crooked teeth as perfect pearls in a cheshire grin despite the ignorance and cares of this present world. No more cage, no more rage… You’ll make it… Home.
Love does last forever ~

Speak to me in a language I can hear
Humour me before I have to go
Deep in thought I forgive everyone
As the cluttered streets greet me once again
I know I can’t be late, supper’s waiting on the table
Tomorrow’s just an excuse away
So I pull my collar up and face the cold, on my own
The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet
At the blasphemy in my old jangly walk
Steeple guide me to my heart and home
The sun is out and up and down again
I know I’ll make it, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you
And for a moment I lose myself
Wrapped up in the pleasures of the world
I’ve journeyed here and there and back again
But in the same old haunts I still find my friends
Mysteries not ready to reveal
Sympathies I’m ready to return
I’ll make the effort, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
Tomorrow’s just an excuse
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you

The Most Wonderful Time of The Year

Merry Christmas 2015 by Brent Christian

…AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Used To Love You

I was telling a new friend about my past relationship…
In an attempt to be hopeful, she says, “Well maybe it’s not too late to try again, ya never know what can happen.”

Perhaps she didn’t understand that my heart has moved on,
…or was it that she could see that I still care soo much??

I still wonder how my ex, Robin, feels about us… whenever she is honest.
Not just about the memories which could be both good and bad…
But what of our love?
Love that gave us great joy together.
Love that got us through tough times together.

Can’t say it wasn’t real.

Gwen keeps it real…

Awesome new single release even in light of the subject matter of
what her heart has been through. There is always something better
on the otherside of pain for amazing people like Gwen who turns her
sorrows into a beautiful expression of art with this song.

Carmen, Let’s Go Home
(A Scottish-American Child’s Night Dream)

Finally together again, you and me!
Discovering and reinventing ourselves as is Holy meant to be
Within each other where we’re forever free to be free

I’ll help you fulfill that place in your dreams left lonely so oft,
When and where your heart is yet still soft,
And you’ll brightly see far beyond all pain into our vast eternity
So come on baby, disciple the lunatic fringe with me
To herald the Light’s coming as was always meant to be

Come on, take my healing, just one touch and you’ll be made well
Then together we’ll pull many firebrands from the torments of hell
Come on baby, break on through to the other side with me
I am a fiery burning love that will forever set you free

Come on baby, awaken the dawn with me
Discover your purest self as it’s meant for me
Come away from the darkness cheating you of love’s light from your eyes
Cause ya know a true love’s flame never dies

Trust that I can keep you warm and safe from all harm
When we head out to the Highlands and buy back the farm

Come on baby, you and me, to our old lands we should flee
Come on baby, you and me, let’s live out our fantasy on STV
And we’ll be the ones to set the ghost of Lady Barbara free

All along the watchtower tying cherry knot’s 1st real date
Marry me in our movie on the Grant Estate
But hurry my love, our magic hour is getting late

Come on, Honeymoon Baby, let’s get our adventure on
Travel Europa on and on
Then back to America but far from studio, from radio,
Free from having to knock out another hit song
(But steadily writing bars,
effortlessly underneath our stars!)
Where The Appalachian Trail cries for us to hike along…

Overachieving The American Dream
Like our ancestors from Holyrood to Aberdeen
From your NY Hood to our Hollywood
I’ll be your safeguard from the lime-light
And hold you tight through the darkest of night,
‘Till we’re burning at the same speed of light
And we’ll become closer than ever as we travel through,
Then you’ll show me, me, while I’ll show you, you
As together we’ll show how there’s truly no inhibitions now

So come back to me fair Lizzy, back from the public gallery, I need a private showing, and I’m jonesing for my video games and your sweet summer wine, but we’ll be much more than that this time, and prove our love to be of Divine design.

Joy Ride

It’s getting close to sundown over the Sierra
Stranded on the freeway burning with desire
She was on the sidewalk looking for a night light
We talked about the real things
And drove into the fire
Headlights on the highway
The desert wind is howling
Rattlesnakes and romance
Is filling with the rain
Candy apple red dress
Bleeding when she kissed me
Heaven in a rag top
Take away my pain

[Chorus]
When your chips are down
When your highs are low
Joyride
Move across the night
Like a separate wind

Pulled up to a motel
“Vacancy” was buzzing
Pink and dirty neon
Settle on the hood
Wrap your arms around me
Come a little closer
Stumble in the twilight
And fell onto the floor
Loving Mona Lisa
Dreaming of the free world
Lipstick on the nightstand
And demons at the door

[Chorus]
When your hopes and dreams
Lose the will to go
Joyride
Reaching for the light
Knowing we can’t win

There’s something in the distance
A glorious existence
A simple celebration
A place you’ve never been before
Tell me that you wanna go

Reaching for the light
Knowing we can’t win

When your chips are down
When your highs are low
Joyride

All your hopes and dreams
All you need to know
Joyride

Yesterday I Saw a Lion Kiss a Dear

…don’t you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer
Turn the page, maybe we’ll find a brand new ending
Where we’re dancing in our tears…

Hello Dear Readers, I’m Finally Breaking The Silence On My Blog.

For such an occassion, nothing could be more absolutely fitting than to present one of the most beautiful songs and live recordings ever.

Gregg Alexander – Lost Stars (lyrics below)

The song ‘Lost Stars’ along with Gregg Alexander’s life, music, and career choices are so very close to my heart because of my own life experiences and due to my daily considerations about the state of things in our world, chiefly concerning the multitude of ‘lost stars’ which we are all either part of, or by the grace of God redeemed from. The concept of us all being stars/stardust, both in the spiritual sense as well as scientific, for indeed both are truly one in the same, is one I’ve passionately studied out and have written essays about; essays which I eagerly look forward to releasing as blog posts here in the near future.

This song is also so very close in poetic style and feeling (as are other songs by Gregg) to my own writings/songs that this song actually feels as if I wrote it.

Furthermore, due to circumstances leading to my fiance’ leaving me, I relate well to the lyrics expressed in the song about wanting to be seen for more than “just a boy caught up in dreams and fantasies” while “reaching out for someone I can’t see” as well as other such lines in the song as, “I’ll be damned, Cupid’s demanding back his arrow”, …Definately, it’s the context of the whole song in which those lines lie coupled with my life struggles which give them heavier meaning far beyond the mere obvious sentiments of unrequited love. As a visionary and entreprenuer, my experience has been that finding a partner who will believe in me and my work is nothing short of a miracle! Well, I’ll save the details for my autobiography, but suffice it to say that I thought she was that miracle who could understand me and believe in me enough to brave the dark until we could enjoy the light at the end of the tunnel together.
But, no, she choose to ignore that ‘we are all lost stars searching for meaning’ while not believing me when I told her, “yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer”.

And I thought I saw you out there crying
And I thought I heard you call my name
And I thought I heard you out there crying
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?
Are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

My discovering this song while dealing with her leaving me is serendipitious enough to be sure, but even more so is the timing of the song’s release which also coincides with my relaunching of this site, since it also coincides with my success as an entreprenuer – ohh the wheels within the wheels…

After a 15-year hiatus away from publishing weekly/daily journal entries also known as ‘web logs’ or ‘weblogs’ (before the Pyra folks who started www.blogger.com coined the term ‘blogs‘; or at least commercialized and capitalized on it), I am finally breaking prosenium to lay bare bare my life, heart, and soul to the world again here on www.brentchristian.com in daily, or at least weekly updated journalistic form. Brace yourselves ~

After a 15-year long hiatus from the lime-light, Gregg emerged to bring attention to a John Carney film which he worked to write ‘Lost Stars’ specifically for. The film, originally titled Can a Song Save Your Life? and re-titled Begin Again for it’s theatrical release, tells a love story between working musicians and was written around the featured song ‘Lost Stars’ with both main characters Kiera Knightly and Adam Levine preforming versions of it…

Here is the 1st interview Gregg has given in 15 years:

Lost Stars (lyrics)

Please don’t see
Just a boy caught up in dreams and fantasies
Please see me
Reaching out for someone I can’t see

Take my hand, let’s see where we wake up tomorrow
Best laid plans sometimes are just a one night stand
I’ll be damned, Cupid’s demanding back his arrow
So let’s get drunk on our tears

And God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It’s hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

Who are we?
Just a speck of dust within the galaxy?
Woe is me
If we’re not careful turns into reality

But don’t you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer
Turn the page, maybe we’ll find a brand new ending
Where we’re dancing in our tears

And God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It’s hunting season and the lambs are on the run
We’re searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?
and I thought I saw you out there crying
and I thought I heard you call my name
and I thought I heard you out there crying
But just the same

And God, give us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It’s hunting season and this lamb is on the run
searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

And I thought I saw you out there crying
And I thought I heard you call my name
And I thought I heard you out there crying
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?
Are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

~
